I took my new D70 along on our Disney vacation last week and had a great time shooting the family. However, the camera survived not one but TWO drops on concrete. First drop was while changing lenses - dropped camera with no lens -- seemed to survive fine. Second drop was while positioning for a shot and raising the camera, the strap grabbed the table and jerked it out of my hand (with lens). Both times camera seemed to be fine with only some small scratches on exterior. Is there anything I should do to check the camera out? Also, being that I'm new to photography, what precautions can I take to prevent this in the future? Hand strap? I'm a tall guy and the Nikon strap is not long enough for my liking (that's why it wasn't around my neck) - any suggestions for straps? Thanks for your suggestions. J--- |

That's good to hear ;). Hopefully I won't find out if mine is as tough.

I have Tamrac straps and they can be adjusted to be long. If you find that the strap is too short for you while changing lenses or what not, you may want to just wrap the strap around one hand instead so if you drop the camera, it won't fall. Another option is to use a handstrap.

That's great....! I have a D70 and if I drop it I'll expect it to keep working! |
