I'm finding by my comments that my photo is on the light side of the grain debate. I had a slight feeling before I entered that it might be seen that way, which is fine, as I think it's really a matter of taste and I think it works for my photo. But the comments are good and helpful and they give me some insight as to what people think of my entry. So thanks guys! :-)

I predict a B&W, portrait will be the winner this challenge. Losers any color shot. Just my view after voting on about 1/2 of the entries. Not complaining, just observing. |

Wow... Just got a 2... :)
I have a good challenge... How about anybody that gives a 1, 2 or 3 to anybody who has an image in any challenge have the BALLS to say why... probably won't happen but just a thought... Unbelievable. |

5.2391 - sinking like the Titanic.
For those of you who like chunky grit - GIVE ME A STINKING 10!!!
I am giving lots of low scores. If it is really bad and all I can say is "this stinks - start over," I'm not going to say that. If I can constructively help THAT photo, then I'll comment. There are lots to go through, so be patient.

I would never give a 1,2, or a 3. I feel if someone takes the time to take a picture, resize, and post it, that to me is at least worth a 4.. |

I was trying to quote Jutilda and I did it wrong so I just got rid of the quote! I don't say to much in the forums! I'm a blonde, what can I say! |

My feelings exactly... :)
Just been looking at recent ribbon winners and am appaled at the idea that 1's and 2's are scored. I understand taste is very individual but so is lack of respect and decency... :) |

A picture like mine that's been receiving 2s and 3s all day. :( |

The rating scale is between 1 and 10, people are going to use it as they see fit. I agree that most images don't deserve the low scores however there can be some that miss the point of a challenge completely.

Agreed... and we all have our own scoring system... but what about the ones that are genuinely and truly dead on the mark and proven winners... I guess I just get a little miffed that some voters so obviously vote with malice. |

Dead on the mark in whose opinion?

The average on an image is just that, an average. No one score is invalid or wrong.

1s are reserved to shots that definitely do not meet the challenge or are so badly done they make me wish I'd never seen it. I only give a few a challenge, and most of the time I comment on them. |

not talking about averages... talking about being honest as an individual voter who has a responsibility to everyone here to conduct themselves with integrity and I think you must agree that there are those that prefer to vote with an agenda... hence the term 'trolls' |

Yes, but there are also mechanisms in place to weed out votes if they follow a pattern, like a majority of ones.

True and appreciated.
Not all are pattern voters though... and the final average isn't the point really. In alot of ways it's the journey that's more important... :) |

To me if a 1 vote is not part of a recognized pattern and therefore dropped then it should be considered legitimate. Some people use the 1 to indicate the worst image in a challenge and a 10 the best.

Oh...I get it you meant: If rikki11 takes a picture, resizes and posts it, it's worth at least of 4. I won't quibble with that, much.
But there is that little bit about holding the challenge description in the highest regard "when voting"...
I've received my share of 1 - 3's and I know they were all undeserved....:-) BUT! Although I may disagree with someone's vote, be it a 1 or a 10, I will defend their right to vote that way. And, frankly, I don't think that click + resize + upload = 4. For me, that means you managed to get past the first part of the learning curve to participate here. I'd re-do almost every challenge entry I have ever submitted. That's why I submit, not to get a ribbon, but to find out what I don't know yet. It's a learning place, and since we're all self-directed and other-assisted it's what you make of it that counts. (And before you complain about the lack of comments to try and prove me wrong, please note the challenge has been open for voting for less than 24 hours.) |
