Folks

A novice question here - I am an amateur turning into a mild hobbyist with my Digital Rebel 300D. I mostly shoot family pictures (portraits and family functions, evetns) and some outdoors now and then. I am looking for an external flash and have looked at various Canon (from 120EX onwards to 580EX) and Sigma flash units. I am budget conscious but want to buy something that I can grow into. Any recommendations for flashes - or places I should look at?

420Ex gives most bang for your buck. The 300D doesn't have all the E-TTL functionality that the 350D or other more expensive models have, so going for the 580EX would give you much other than a more powerful flash.
