I just stumbled across this page this evening on the New York Times website. It's really appropriate considering this week's challenge -- I just wish I had known about it before!!

NYT Photos & Commentary

It's a series of really cool photos but the best part is that there's an audio commentary by the photo editor that talks about the picture and what it means to them, etc... Very interesting.

Right, but here you'd have to cast your vote without hearing that commentary...

I guess I meant as more of a learning experience for the future...and seeing what a photo editor for THE major newspaper looks for in a photo too.

I got it -- I was just being grumpy and snide and lamenting that "the best part" is redacted from our entries here...

That was quite fascinating. I was particularly interested in the very last picture. It is a picture with an entirely blown-out centre section; and yet it is still good enough for the NYT because the rest of the composition was so interesting.

I guess it just goes to show that having a job as a photographer, and entering photography competitions are too totally different animals.

One is based on practicality while the other is based on luxury.

Or something like that :)

?? The luxury of experience, camera, credentials, time, and opportunity? not to mention talent. :)
