Is there a known solution to fix noise 'banding' issues at ISO 3200?

Shoot in RAW and use Adobe ACR to convert. This pretty much eliminates the 'banding' issues.

This has been an issue since the begining. As far as I know, they tried to address it in a firmware upgrade, but that only affected serious 'banding' that occured when using the built-in flash. The 'banding' that we see now, is 'normal' 'banding' as a result of the way they achive ISO 3200. I heard that most cameras have this issue.

I used to just live with it, and only use 3200 when there was no other way. Now with the RAW/ACR method, the 'banding' is virtually non-existant. Here's a photo I took yesterday night. ISO 3200, 20D, 70-200 f/4 L, f/4, 1/200s. This images was processed as discussed above, then run through NI to eliminate the noise, but in reality, the noise was acceptable for ISO 3200.

More images can be seen here. These have not been run through NI.

Shot in JPEG. ISO 3200 100% crop
Same shot RAW processed using ACR to convert to JPEG. Colour was also corrected using WB adjustment in RAW.

As you can see, the noise is still there, but the 'banding' is not.

Needless to say, after I discovered this, I never shoot JPEG only anymore, especially at ISO 3200.
