I've had comments on my entry in the reflection challenge saying that my photo was out of focus when it was in perfect focus and I applied a soft focus to it just to get it a bit of a fantasy feel. Now I'm not say that I will win a ribbon because I really don't like my own entry but I know I'm getting a lower score because some feel its out of focus. How can I correct this but still use the soft focus?

The vast majority of DPC voters like sharp focus. And this is the unfortunate part...they like ONLY sharp focus. Anything else they wouldn't get, and would be assigned to the realms of pretentious-ness or artsy-ness. Generally, that means a "5" vote. Take it, or leave it, or suffer through it in the hope that a "worthy" minority will "get" what you're trying for.

Yes, label me an elitist.
