it was only a good 6 months ago. Strange...considering this site waits years with some topics. |

Considering all the discourse that followed as to what "light" meant... I wonder why we are bothering. Surely there are other venues we could explore.

It's a technique challenge, and a challenging one to boot. Light on white is really hard to do well. I don't mind seeing it again, especially now we have double-exclusive challenges. Let's the new members try things we've already tried, and lets us apply what we learned the first time around if we're so inclined.

I don't mind giving it another try. I failed to get the white right last time. |

Oddly enough Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss) and my uncle were best friends. I got to hang out with him a fair amount when I was young. This was in the late 50's. He was a lot of fun :-)

I suppose it wouldn't. But for the record, I'm running out of "famous people I have known"; there really ain't that many of them. We just need someone to mention Clint Eastwood so I can drop his name, and I think I'm done...
Oh, wait... Did I ever mention I house-sat for Dustin Hoffman while he was making "The Graduate"? My friend was his understudy in that film, and he set me up with the gig. jejejeâ¢

I'm wondering with a white background, if there are interesting shadows, are we going to get dissed, because then the background isn't completely white? Hmmmm - I love the play of light and shadow, but this probably isn't the challenge. Maybe I'll do delicate.

Bear...Tell us more about Dr. Seuss. What did he look like? How did he act? Did he rythme when he talked?

This was a really long time ago. Like 50 years ago. He was skinny, he had a goatee, he didn't talk down to kids, and he didn't "talk in rhyme" that I can remember. But he has the quality of myth to me now. I never followed through on the acquaintance after I got older, though I probably could have. We moved to Switzerland for 4 years in 1957, and when we came back I was a teenager and had better things to do :-)

Yes, as a matter of fact, and all the spaghetti westerns too and even (yuck) "Bridges of Madison County". Funny you should ask; I actually knew Clint Eastwood when I lived in Carmel. Our house wasn't far at all from his place in Malpaso Canyon. He owned an eatery that we frequented, a casual pubyy place, and he was pretty active locally, ended up running for mayor of Carmel and winning. He could play a little golf, too :-) Still can, I assume. He's a very nice man.
***There, we got that out of the way***
