I hope that my standard kit comes with the 17.5-45 instead of the 14-45. I already have another 14-45, and the deal I got from Dell made it cheaper to buy the kit than the body alone. Plus the 17.5 has 52mm threads instead of the 58mm threads of the 14-45 (I have about 20 or so 52mm filters and the new 35mm macro has 52mm threads). |
The 17.5-45 lens is only supposed to be sold in Europe and not in the US. I haven't heard of anyone in the US getting the 17.5-45. |

Update from Olympus....The 17.5-45 will be offered as part of the Costco "discounted" price. |

Well I FINALLY found an E-300 here to look at. I'm sold. I believe I will be buying the E-500 this weekend when my gift card comes. I'll have to order it online since best buy does not have it in store.
I kept going back and forth between the D70 and the Rebel. But after holding the Olympus it felt more comfortable to me- plus you can't beat that kit price.
I'm stoked! |

FWIW, the 35mm macro lens can be had for less than $200 at many online shops. I think they are in short supply or are close to being discontinued, as Zuiko lenses almost never go on sale.
i picked one up from a local camera shop for $220, plus a $15 Oly rebate, so $205 net.

I about fell over when you said the E-300 has a mirror lockup with the firmware update. I have the firmware updated but can't find the lockup feature. Can someone tell me where to find it?

hit menu > select the icon with the camera2 > ANTI-SHOCK > select 1 to 30 seconds
The ANTI-SHOCK setting is the last item under the camera2, but just go up past card setup & it is the next one.
Remember to set back to off or you'll miss a shot. I use it even when I really don't need the vibration reduction as the self timer. |

edit to add:
I'm at work & don't have the link, but there are some hacks with the E-300 that allow ISO 50, total shutter count, and the total number of times the anti-dust sensor has shaken. |
