The contrast seems way off on this image.

By the way, this is interesting because i also just recently uploaded a photo that looks similar to yours. How weird is that?

LOL, it probably is?? I am new to it i just fiddle and play and practice away. Is it pleasing to the eye i wanted it very light, and the contrasting sides, one of the hair to the left and very light the other, if that makes any sense??

As I mentioned, the contrast is too low on this image and it seems like the brightness is too high. A high key image, though mostly BW, still maintains the details of the subject.

If you have the original, you can email it and I'll take a stab at it.

It looks more like a charcoal drawing than a photo. Was that what you intended?
10/17/2005 08:53:14 PM · #12
Here it is...phew, a charcoal drawing wasnt quite the idea lol

How about this? It's like a proof sheet for color contact lenses :)

10/17/2005 09:31:51 PM · #16
LOL @ PROOFS FOR CONTACT LENSES!!
I like them, at least they arent like a charcoal drawing, the thing i was going for which i have seen is really high contrast where you dont really see anything bar the outline contours and the eyes, how light could you go without it looking like a drwaing and still get the same effect???? I have so many questions......
Jodi
Thanks for doing those ;)

I prefer rikki's.... Although he used the clone brush...

Is this a basic or advanced editing challenge?

You're using Photoshop?

Then open the image, and go to 'Layers, New Adjustment Layer, Channel Mixer'

Check the 'monochrome' box, and play with the three sliders until you get the effect you want.

The coloured eye is a bit more complex, involves painting on the mask and then using a hue/saturation layer.

But, everyone will have a different approach to this. This is just the method I'm used to.

I think i prefer Rikki's too but in your the eyelashes are great, if only mine were really like that?

From the start to get the color proof eye sheet:
- duplicated layer
- using channels, converted top layer to BW
- using color balance I adjusted colors to desired eye color on bottom layer
- erased eyes on top layer
- sharpened top layer
- merged images together using layer blend

To get to the High Key wannabe:
- duplicated layer
- adjusted contrast to +40 and brightness to +12 (top layer)
- adjusted levels to gain the whites (top layer)
- USM (top layer)
- erased eyes (top layer)
- merged using layer blend
- neat image
- stroke with frame
- save for web

Simple enough I think :) Try it out :)
