A friend's Olympus E-20N died last night. LCD flashed all icons a few times, then shut down. From the description he gave, it sounds like the camera's internal battery, the one that keeps the clock, etc. running, died (2 1/2 yr old camera).

Olympus just says "send it in" and their web-site/instruction manual doesn't mention an internal battery.

Anyone know where that battery would be located? How to change it? If that's what the problem is?

I'm unable to help your friend as far as internal battery location but Olympus charges just $205 for repairs on that camera, which includes a change of the shutter and lens. That may be the problem, as these cameras have shutter lives of about 25,000 actuations. It may not even need the battery change and he'd be getting practically a brand new camera.

If he's not willing to spend the money, PM me and I may be willing to purchase it from him, if it's in good shape otherwise.

I've shot an E20 for about 3 years and never had a problem but I wouldn't touch it inside. Unless your a electronics technician you'll probably do more harm than good. Send it to Olympus. They are reasonable and fast.
Also, if your friend is shooting professionally, he can join the online pro group at Olympus.com and they will send him a loaner camera while his is being repaired.

Great advice. Thanks guys! Just calling him and I think he's feeling less suicidal now.
