Some shots from today's debacle. One of my favorites is the guy in the parking lot after the game, burning a Tommy Maddox jersey... comments/critics welcome as usual (about the pictures, not the game :)

I caught the last 2 minutes of the game and thought of you. As that final INT was going down all I could think is, "where's Alan and did he get a money shot of the INT?"

Awesome shots, sorry about the loss. That was a heartbreaker. When's Ben back?

Wow! Amazing shots!

How close were you? Sidelines I imagine? What equipment did you use?

I thought Maddox did a pretty good job, he hasn't taken a snap all year untill today.. and He kept them in the game.
Things could be worse Alan-- you could be shooting Harrington @ Ford Field, lol!!

Heh... no, I was at the other end of the field, kinda hoping the ball was going to go in that direction! :)

I was pretty lucky with several shots today... Randel El's big return came right at me, Miller's touchdown was 10 feet in front of me, and I nearly got wiped out by the big runback in overtime. I could see myself in the replay on the Jumbotron, skittering out of the way like a weenie.

Are you sure we were seeing the same game? I thought he blew, big time, personally. Granted, he hasn't been in the game for a while, but the only positive yardage he was getting all day was from penalties. At least that's certainly how it seemed! I kept hoping someone would say to Ben Roethlisberger, "So, how bad is the knee, really?"

Thanks! :) I am on the field, shooting for my old hometown newspaper. I use my D70s, Sigma 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4x teleconverter.

Alan, I want to be like you when I grow up.

Do you ever pay attention to high school football? My cousin, Bill Gallagher, is the head coach for Perry Traditional Academy. Just thought I'd mention it, if you run into him.

Nope... 'fraid I mostly just do the Steelers games (and an occasional game for a local semi-pro team, the Pittsburgh Colts). I have to hand it to high school shooters... those are probably the most difficult games of any sport to shoot thanks to the cruddy lighting.

I didn't find the game depressing at all.... ;)

Very nice photos though - well done.

as always, excellent work! just out of curiosity, what type of settings are you getting with the converter? does that limit you to F/4? does that put your tv around 1/1250 or better? are you shooting in av mode? just curious...

Just a reminder of more bad news for Pittsburgh that Sun., Nov. 6, Steelers will be meeting this fellow. Farve last weekend in Green Bay vs. New Orleans.....

Yeah, that was definitely an aspect I really enjoyed at the game I shot in Jacksonville last December! It's just as well that the Steelers don't have cheerleaders, considering I'd probably barely remember to shoot the game...

And here's what we get in Pittsburgh...

Fantastic shots!!! I am one of those highschool shooters and the lighting drives me absolutely nuts but I manage to still get some good shots!!!

Yep, the 1.4x teleconverter costs me a stop, so I am shooting at f4 (a 2x would reduce it by 2 stops). I generally always shoot on AV, personally. I just keep it as wide open as the lens allows and let the camera pick the shutter speed. Once the afternoon light starts to fade, I keep an eye on the shutter speed and adjust the ISO upwards as needed.

Fantastic photo of Troy as always Alan. What would I do without you supplying me with photos of Troy all season long. =o)
