I'm in the market for a 19" (+) monitor. I'm researching to find a happy medium between affordability and quality. I'm not even sure if I'm going to make the leap to LCD this time; that would be nice if could find something that's comparable to CRT quality and price. The Sony SDM-HS95P has some good reviews and is in my range but will it perform as well as the tried and true CRT. From what I've been reading, most CRTs on the market today are pretty close in quality. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (BTW, I can't afford an Apple Cinema, LaCie or any other ultra high-end display.)

What's your price range?
There's a 35% off sale on a LCD monitor (the 2001FP model) at Dell that uses the same flat panel that is used in the Apple Cinema Displays. |

Not sure what that is in USD but if you're so inclined, here's the link and you can check it out for yourself. To find out final cost when you go to checkout insert this coupon code:

I just calculated the cost savings for me in USD which was $262. NOt too shabby. I hope it's within your means. Btw...EddyG recommends this model, and if I"m not mistaken owns one. |

Thanks.
At Dell Canada the price is $645.15 CAD after rebate. Your price would have been $577.18 CAD (using current exchange rate). Shipping and duty would probably make it pretty close but I'll have to check.
Anyone else out there have monitor suggestion?

Only one person has an opinion on monitors on the entire site? Thanks Olyuzi.

Yes on both accounts. =]
I would only recommend an LCD over a CRT if it uses an S-IPS based display. Otherwise, an LCD is not appropriate for photo editing/viewing.
For more info on S-IPS based panels, just do a search and you'll find some of my earlier posts on the subject.

I have that monitor and its great! My favorite thing about it is you can flip it on its side for huge portrait mode editing (I put the palates on another monitor). |

Dell Canada has a special promotion on today. edit - Be warned, Dell Canada has the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. I've spent 2 days trying to get my order straightened out. I've been bounced between departments so much I feel like a frikken basketball.

No, neither the 1905FP or 2405FPW have S-IPS panels. |

But the 2005FPW does, right? That's the one I ordered. Saved $250 CAD and free shipping. Here's where to get the coupon code again if you missed it the first time I posted it: //www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/days_of_deals?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs I think it's only valid for today BTW.
