Pictorally speaking, LOL
I am really going to start pushing the animal side of my photography and have already approached one friend about shooting her dogs. I am giving her a free 8 x 10, no sitting fee in exchange to be able to use the shots for my portfolio.
Now, my next question is when putting together a portfolio, it should all be 8 x 10's right, in a photo album type setting. I should do more than just put them in there or spruce it up a bit?
I am aiming to shoot the animals in their home enviornment, more relaxed. I will also be approaching other friends and a few clients to shoot their animals with the same deal. Does this all sound about right for just getting started?

You want to make them look the best, do a mixed bag of sizes. So they can see that you are adaptable. Take shots in the field too, like a hunting dog in a field, or something similar for your portfolio. Also, get as many colors or shades as possible, both color & B&W, variety helps sell too. Just my thoughts. |

I've been told that you should definitely not use a "photo album" for a portfolio.
For an idea of what "real" portfolios are presented in, have a look at Brewer-Cantelmo. They offer both cases (for loose, mounted prints) and more traditional binders. |

Thanks vtraun for the suggestions. I have so far my bug, going to get some of Vinnie and Haley and the ones I'll be shooting for my friend are a chocolate lab and a black lab. I'm going to do the cats as well and talk to another friend about shooting some of her snakes and birds. ;)
EddyG, thanks for the idea on the portfolio idea. I'll be looking for something special now, might even have something already here, will look as I clean out the office.
MeThoS, do you have a link to what your's looks like?
