I wish! Barely hanging on to the 6. Have we ever had a challenge where the blue ribbon was under 7?

| Actually, looks like we've had quite a few with winners under a 7. From what I did on a quick look, it appears that "Affluence" was the lowest scoring with 6.419 the blue. |

I just finished scoring "Personification", then read enough of this thread to get the flow of things, so I guess I'm now an expert.
Maybe the best way to explain personification is by example and the simplest example is literary:
"The building's columns stood like silent sentinels guarding the entrance."
As an illustration, look at Van Gogh's 'Avenue of The Elysian Fields".
Here the poplars line the sides of the road like soldiers on a parade route.
About 80% of the pictures never reached the topic. Personification does not imply huminoid. This isn't the search for the Virgin Mary in the rust stains. These people got 2-4, depending on how much I liked the picture.
Another group of the entrants understood the concept but got lost in translation. In a lot of these, I felt like I was judging a sculpture contest. Admittedly, there are quite a few extremely talented sculptors among us, if the work was theirs. These people got 5-6 for effort.
A few really showed talent, submitting masterful interpertations of the topic. They got 7-9 and I gave out three 10's.

No worries, Rikki. They're all commenting on how much they hate it because it has a face. Bunch of lemmings! The challenge description says NOTHING about images with or without faces. But I'm not going to rant, just chalk it up to (edited) nevermind.

Just curious, do you mathematically calculate how many voters and points you have to get to what the last person voted? Or is there yet another reason for me to become a member really soon? Or last, could it be me too ignorant not to know about a feature on this site? |

Yes. As a member, you get the dreaded update button. With that you can calculate your votes before and after you hit your update :)
I would recommend being a member. It's only $25 and you get a portfolio :) |

Seems like I got you beat this time Doc. But sheesh... barely! It went as high as 5.8241 yesterday but slowly crept down the slide. Still with only 5 comments. I knew I was at the bottom of the barrel in your scores Doc :P
