I am interested in knowing what experiences people have had with shutterstock.com. In particular, what type of photos have yielded the best re$ult$; any tips/techniques? What other sites have proved better/worse?

Thanks,
Steve

A good starting point, if you haven't already done so, is to do a forum search for shutterstock. There are numerous threads about them (most of which have eventually devolved into an argument about the evils of microstock) that contain helpful information.

Exactly. Then if you do register, you can use my referrer link : )

(or one of the others in the other threads ...)

I have received 1 check from them. Hopefully I would've earned enough at the end of the month for my 2nd one.

i have recieved several checks from them and regard them highly. their payout per download is on the low side from the photographers point of view but you get more downloads than anywhere else. istock has been doing better for me recently but you cant go wrong with shutterstock. the first two - three months are the hardest, especially if you are starting from scratch, but it definetely gets a lot better as your portfolio grows.

Like Shutterstock, listing referral links is not exclusive -- go ahead and join the crowd!
