I took some shots intended for the Celebration Challenge but didn't manage to submit it as I was so busy in school today (end of the quarter grades). Maybe my unconscious tells me that my work is not good enough. Here they are. Comments welcome.

Perhaps not as "crowd-appealing" as your trademark ribboning images, but certianly both excellent shots. My question is, do you only enter images you feel deep down will ribbon? Geeze, that never stopped me. I just have fun, post up the results, and play the "game". Even though the ONLY shots of mine that do well are scenics...

I'm only in it for the fun too. Maybe I'd see it differently if I were pulling in thousands of dollars a month through DPC.
I'll trade either of your images for mine, which is currently sub-fiving it. :-D

Manny..... of course these pictures are great, but Robt. has a point - it's a given, everyone who enters these "contests" has 2nd guess thoughts of about how well their entry will score. I am surprised that your unconscious surfaced about this subject - the idea of even contemplating those unknowns is a waste of time and energy IMO, better spent on your pictures, or with your students - The numerous threads about "should I enter or not, because I don't think it will score high" are frankly not really worth this much effort, considering that variations on this thread come up again and again, and considering I could simply give you the information you need about your picture after it is entered. I don't enter every challenge either but when I do spend my precious time & effort to prepare for a challenge I submit it. I may not necessarily like it, or love it, but it is what I have. I also may suspect in my unconscious that my image is not good, great or a winning image, but it is the best that I have done and it is representative of what kind of photographer I really am given my limitations. |

Librodo, I cannot really warm to the first image. I think it is just a little too busy for my liking. (My eyes are just not sure what I should be focussing on. I do, however, love the 2nd one. What would you have titled it?

If I take a picture intended for the challenge, I will post it no matter what. However, I held back on these images because one, I didn't take it purposely for the challenge (one is for the Digital Photography Club which I sponsor in school and the other one for a street photography project I am doing for another site) and two, I didn't really see a strong connection of these two shots for the Celebration challenge.
I do take a lot of pictures and I am posting them mostly at my pbase account (and also a lot in trekearth and treklens) so these pictures will definitely serve its purpose.
I just wanna have fun too.:) But being a Filipino, I kinda become too passionate about anything I put my heart and soul into, photography being one of them.

Well-said. I do that for pictures that fit the challenge very well. But I have to admit that sometimes a bad score (and I had a lot), dampen my spirit and sink my mood for the whole week. And I am suppose to have FUN. So I have learned my lessons.:)
