So I've been meaning to tell you all about something fun I did a couple of weeks ago.....
I FINALLY managed to round up several of my friends who also enjoy taking pictures and convinced them to give me three or four hours on a saturday afternoon. And we did something unique... (or at least I think it is!)
We went on a photo scavenger hunt!
I made up a list of about 35 things the night before, we all met at the designated location and the lists were passed out! We paired up and ran around a 6 block area scouring the landscape for things on the list. Some were pretty basic, some were more like the challenges here, and some were just plain silly! We had two hours to collect all the photos we could.
Then we met back at a house, put all the pics on a computer and had slide shows to show off what we had found :-) I had some small prizes so everyone who participated got a little something.
And....the best part....?? EVERYONE had a great time. It was something I had figured we'd get together and do maybe twice a year. But as we were loading pics onto the computer everyone kept asking, "So, when's the next one?" Turns out, they want to do it once a month! We even set up a group on Flickr so that we can all post the results of our hunts.
Just thought I'd share, as it was a really fun way to get together with friends and take some pictures :-) Great weekend fun and I highly reccomend it! |

We have been doing this twice a year with the photo club. Be careful though. Here's why.
There were about 30 people in the rally and we all teamed up in cars.
I went in a car with another professional photographer who had his signs on the car. We all had to use disposable cameras to give everyone an even keel. One of the first things we got was a picture of an animal. My friend(the PP) stopped the car and took a picture of a dog. But in the picture was also a little girl. She was on one side of the fence and the dog on the other and they were digging a hole together under the fence. So cute!!
Over an hour later we were on the other side of the town when a police car pulled up. They had apparently been tracking us all over town and found us because of the PP signs on the car. The parents of the girl had watched my friend take the photo of the girl and reported possible paedophilia to the police. Apparently they had stood inside the house and watched the whole thing and not even come out to investigate. My friend had asked permission of the little girl and she had said yes. He really only wanted the dog in the image but did the right thing because of how close the girl was in the photo.
The funny thing was when the police car pulled up next to us there was my friend in the middle of a park taking a sporting photo of a little boy and his dad.
It didn't look too convincing when I tried to explain that this photo rally had been advertised on radio and newspapers for over a week to let the public know. It was also difficult as the police were on duty from another town over 3 hours away and didn't know the town.
Now what got us through in the end was getting the police to think about why a PP would take a photo for paedophile reasons on a 'disposable camera'...DOH!!
But in the end I convinced the police to let me take a photo of their car for the rally...hahahahaha!!
So please everyone...be very careful of what you photograph on these events.
