I have been asked to work on a calendar for a fundraiser - using my photos.

The first time this was done (last year) the calendar was set up with Cafe Press. I understand there were some errors in the initial printing and that it turned into quite a headache for the person working on it. Though, he had never had issues with Cafe Press prior to that.

Since I am going to be working on it (to what degree, I'm not positive) - I am wondering if any of you produce calendars and if you have a site you can recommend?

Good things about Cafe Press - people can order from them directly once the product is ready and the price was reasonable and allowed for profit for the charity.

Anyone know of a place that might fit the bill?

How many are you planning to produce, and what's the "suggested donation" for these going to be?

If you're going to make over 500 or a 1000 copies, then you should probably be looking for offset printing rather than photographic reproduction.

The print shop I work at is just now doing a promotional calendar for a guitar dealer, and I think it's running about $3,500 for 1000 calendars.

Oh wow - I'm sure it will be nowhere near that many. I haven't sat down and talked with the previous organizer - but it's for a fairly small hobby community.

I do know that Cafe Press charges about $15 for the calendar - and AFAIK the profit from each calendar last year was $2.

Thanks - I'll check it out a bit more in depth.

An issue I see - yes, the price for 25+ is cheaper - however, we would have to pay shipping to get the calendars delivered to me (or whoever is taking care of orders) plus shipping to the person who ordered.
So we would have to tack on the double shipping charges. So pricing may end up being about the same.

However, they ARE an alternative to Cafe Press - so definitely worth researching.

Have you had any experience with them?

If you're a Costco member, you can get them for $9.99, and start them with any month. Go online to Costco.com and click on the link to the photo center. If you're doing 20-30 copies, the price savings may more than cover the Costco membership. I'd order one as a test though, I've never seen one made from my own photos.

I've had to check into the same thing for a small group and I found that Walmart had the best prices. I didn't have to pay for shipping because I picked them up at the store and the calendars came out better than anticipated. Good luck with your search!

I have only purchased 4x6 prints from kodak, granted a good experience, nothing went wrong, but I cant advocate their calendar service from experience.

Never thought about Costco or Wal-Mart. Will definitely check into it.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Does anyone have a store on cafepress that I can put as a referral? I have been looking into the idea of producing a calendar for raising Tuberous Sclerosis Awareness in addition to raising funds for the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. I'm currently researching cafepress that was mentioned here. Anyone having much success with it?

I have a store - it's very small right now. Let me get you the link.
My stuff hasn't sold (only have two things there) - but I know others who swear by it and do pretty well.

I have a HUGE network of Tuberous Sclerosis families that I believe would purchase this type of thing. I would want all of my profits to go directly to the TS Alliance and I see that Cafepress gives that option. This is looking too good to be true. The only thing I am hesitant about is give them the freedom to use my photos as they see fit...at least I think that is what i got from their T's & C's, but maybe it is for them to reproduce the images. I almost need an interpreter for this.
