Well I will be shooting my second wedding today. There is just one problem the wedding was suposed to be outside and in is raining its butt off, I mean it is pouring, and its not going to let up anytime soon.

Does anyone have any tips for shooting wedding in the rain. What can I use to protect my camera gear, and how can I make their day special even though it is raining.

Congrats on the job, Travis, and good luck dealing with the weather. I'd suggest putting your camera in a plastic bag with openings cut for viewfinder and lens. tape around those cut ends will help. And shoot under awnings, umbrellas, tents, indoors, etc.

Believe me, the Bride doesn't want to get wet either, so should be easy enough to convince her to find a dry place.

I would definitely go early to scout out spaces large enough for all shots that are safe from the downpour.

Have fun and share the shots when you can. :)

congrats on the job travis!

I would contact the bride and see if she has an alternate location planned in case of rain. I know when i got married outside i had a church set up in case of rain. I find it hard to believe she wont have at least tents set up. she wont want to get her dress all wet and muddy!

If she doesnt have another "just in case" location the i suggest u grab your umbrella and get out there and start scopeing out places to shoot the wedding party! good luck and be sure to post some of the photos!

Don't worry it will be special whatever the weather ( speaking frpm experience fairly recently!)

Just take lots of umbrellas with you and if there are any dry periods during the day when you can just grab the bride & groom and get them outside, then make the most of them. Have any good backgrounds worked out so you can go straight there and take the pics quickly. And if it does start raining make sure you keep everyone smiling through being lighthearted yourself else the mood will deteriorate and the pics won't "sparkle". If you can have someone as an assistant to hold umbrellas over you and put cameras into bags as you finish with them or swap so you don't waste time and they don't get wet.

OH yea - women do not want to get their hair nor their new expensive outfits wet so be aware that keeping them waiting even in a light rain will NOT be popular!.
Good luck!

Thanks Cher, my wife wants a DSLR and she wants to come with me on my next wedding. I think we would make a great team, and as soon as I get some money i think I will get her one.
