Does anyone know of a good site that shows examples or steps to drawing cartoon character's bodies? I'm fairly good at making a pretty strong resemblance in the face and so on, but I cannot draw a body for the life of me.

I mean like caricature style...it doesn't even have to be anything real impressive, just a few ideas of generic bodies to use on the faces I draw of the people I know.

Thanks.

What your looking for is covered under animation "Character Design".

You can do a Google search for "Character Design" "Lessons" and see if you can find an online training site.

I took some animation drawing classes at the American Animation Institute in North Hollywood about 5 years ago. I know most of the Disney and Dreamworks animators had at least some training from that school.

If you are considering getting into feature film animation this school is very important to as it is an arm of the Animation Guild (Union) for the animators in the film industry.

Most or all the instructors have or our currently working at the studios and know what is wanted at the studios.

One thing they want you to master is drawing the human form as it is in reality but using animation drawing techniques. This way when you do animation, the character look realistic in the way it moves & responds to the enviroment around it. And in Character Design they want you to know how to design your character so that it can be easily animated. Some good designs would be too difficult to animate.

The best instructor I know of for learning to draw reality for use in animation is Glenn Vilpuu. He may still be an instructor there.

Check out his website, books and videos. Glenn Vilpuu Studio

AAI is a great school and Glenn's a great instructor.

Added: Check these lessons.

Ooops!!

Just reading your request again and realized you meant "Caricature" not Character.

Google this: Caricature drawing lessons.
