I recently bought an Epson R320 printer, which will print labels directly onto CDs/DVDs. The printer came with its own semi-cheesy "Epson Print CD" software for this purpose, but I'd really rather do this stuff in Photoshop instead.

Has anyone had any luck doing so? I'd appreciate some guidance if anyone else has tried this, and if you might have a .psd template or something to share, that would be super, too!

Well you can drop an image into Epson CD so I suppose you could create everything in PS and then do nothing in Epson except drop it in and position/scale it if necessary.

Let us know how it works -- I've been (barely) considering getting one of these.

1st off you need a special CD/DVD that can be printed on...didn't have one of those, tried it anyway. Works great, software is easy to use but everything wiped off. Now all I have to do is work to the bottom of my almost new stack of 100 cd's.

I have I think the R300m (well actually my wife took it) that does that too. I had a hard time finding those disks to print on but eventually found them at I think Office Depot, so when you find them you may want to stock up.

I only did a couple and found it very hard to create an image in a different program (such as photoshop or PSP) and get everything to line up. I usually had to print it more than once to get it right, this isn't really an issue cause I was printing on a disk for a friends wedding and just used the errored one as my backup and gave the good one to them. good luck, it really does look nice when it works and is convienent.

I think at Costco I got a stack of TDK DVD-R discs with the printable (and writable) surface for about $30/50.

I've had no trouble getting the printable CDs (I think I got a batch of them at Wal-Mart).

I have been able to make stuff in Photoshop and then import it into the Epson software, but it's a pain in the neck. I'd really like to just print straight from Photoshop if I could find a way.

When I go to the "print" dialog, there is an option for printing to the CD, but when I tried printing one, it didn't line up correctly at all. It printed on the lower right side of the CD, way off base. Bah.

I'm guessing I'll have to stick with the method where I make basic graphics in PS and move things over to the Epson software.

I've got a layered photoshop template which shows the printable areas for photoshop, then I turn off the guide layers and import it into Epson Print CD, its the only way Im aware of that you can get the printer line it up properly.
