You will also find screens that say they are "crystalBright" or some such drivel. They are noticeably more contrasty and look really cool.
They are exactly the same screens as are on other laptops, but have a little plastic overlay which can be purchased afterwards for exactly the same effect. The difference is that those screens have the plastic overlay installed at the factory.
Pay close attention to the glare and reflection on that type of screen. It is much different than other screens. It may be to your liking or it may not. I personally have a different type of screen on my computer.
Make sure you have a look at Acer laptops. They have a combination of excellent prices, reliable product and sensible ideas when putting their computers together. They have a couple of really outstanding entries to the market lately. Second to that I'd suggest looking at Dell.
A friend of mine whose father owns a computer store in Alberta asked her father for a recommendation of the best Laptop she could buy. He didn't hesitate to recommend the Acer Ferrari series. Yes, that is real sponsorship and use by the Ferrari race team. They are quite expensive though.
I recently helped a couple of my friends buy Laptops in the Aspire 16xx line (might have been the 1692?). The computers had the latest 1.8ghz processors, 512MB (base) of DDR2, 128mb ATI 107xx 3d video cards and dual layer DVD (fully backwards compatible right down to CD format) burners. They had Seriously nice 15.4" widescreen 1280x900 (forgot the actual numbers sorry if it's wrong) displays. The computer cost something like 1400 Canadian dollars, which is around 1175 US. Battery life was quite robust as well. I was giddy for a week afterwards.
I'm not in the business of selling computers, I'm an English Teacher. I am a customer of Acer who has been quite happy because of the intelligent choices they tend to make in their products which are often lacking in offerings by other companies.
Don't buy without at least looking at the Acer lineup. If you go to a store that doesn't have it, find another store. |
