I know some sports are a tad odd but why on earth would someone think up this?
Chess Boxing

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't find it that odd. Reminds me of Battle Chess. Where while standing on a life size chess board, the players (when challenged by a person moving to their square) would fight. I've usually seen it with swords and weapons, more in the mideival times.
There's also a video game by that same title Battle Chess. Same concept. You move your piece to someone elses square and the 2 pieces fight it out to the death.
A little different, but similar. |

There was a scene in one of the Harry Potter movies with this type of action also I believe?
