Anyone use the Colorvision Monitor and Printer Calibration suite PrintFIX Suite? Good? Bad? Not worth it? Can't live without it?

Anyone?

I use it. I like it a lot and it drastically improved print quality on my Epson R300. I have since bought the R1800 and I find that the epson profiles are pretty accurate, but I may run PrintFIX to tune it up a bit.

Perhaps the most important piece is the spyder pro display calibration. Having accurate displays has drastically improved my work.

If you have specific questions, I may be able to provide more information.

I bought the suite but CS2 doesn't seem to be supported yet. Customer support was closed by the time I got to the point of actually profiling. It seems that the unit came out pre-CS2 and the settings and names have changed between CS and CS2. Settings are needed to create the profiles inside PhotoShop. I did try profiling but the test prints don't match the test image on my monitor(which was calibrated with the Spyder2Pro). Has anyone run into this before?

I called ColorVision and here's what they recommend as the CS2 settings for printing the color target:

CS2 Settings:

i9900 Settings:

For the i9900 there is only one target, "glossy photo paper", which their engineers have "determined" is the setting for all photo paper stock. For glossy and pearl surfaces they recommend several hours drying time and for matte finishes 1 hour before profiling.

Hy guys,

I just got the PrintFix to test on my Epson R300.

I'm using Colorvision Spider2 Pro and I can say I can not live without it anymore!
I hope PrintFix will do for my printer what Spider did to the monitor!

But so far I haven't got a decent result from PrintFix, but then I was using the wrong settings for Printing color management in PS CS2 on my Mac. The manual doesn't cover CS2, not even if you download the latest version at Colorvision website.

Now thanks to orussell I hope it will get better now. It's for PC but shows the PS settings that I need.

Ok, apart from the printed chart sliping sideways all the time and sometimes getting completely stucked on the scanner, I managed to make a printing test to check the results without the acetate sleeve.

Compared to the monitor and to Epson original profile, it seems to be in between.

Less warm than Epson but still more than the monitor colors.

One down side is that seems to be something that resembles color noise in the print when I used PrintFix profile. Contrast seems lower too. The blacks are not so black anymore.

Anyone getting similar results?

I couldn't get a good result from it. Like you say, the target kept shifting in the sleeve for one thing. I think ColorVision off loaded the unit at a lower price to make way for their PrintFIX Pro, colorimter based unit. That's why they didn't bother updating for CS2. Their support for the PrintFix unit sucks BTW. I kept getting told different things as reasons I couldn't get good results, last off being it was the printers fault becuse it was printing too much blue. That's the idea isn't it, to correct for these types of things?

Please keep me posted on your progress Delaunay.

Hi orussell,

I fired an email to Colorvision about the sleeve sliding in the scanner. They answered that I should wait at least 6 hours after printing the chart to scan it with the sleeve! I guess they expect the paper to dry out and get thin again maybe (lol). Hope it will work!
I will test the same chart later today with the sleeve on to see if works and I can get a better result with the new ICC. If the guys at colorvision are rigth, it should be thin enough now after more than 24hs drying out!
I keep you updated.

About Spider2, I would like to know if someone had the same results that I did in CRT monitors.
It seems that after calibrating they get a warm cast, the oposite that ocurred with my LCD!
For me the LCD seems good, but no so sure about the CRT.
I'm asking that because I got it from eBay, but when I received it was not sealed and brand new like the seller stated and looked well used. Maybe it has a problem with CRT monitors, I don't know.
In that case I will send it back to the seller and get my refound from PayPal, I hope.

Yeap, guys at Colorvision are right.

Today I scanned the same chart from 3 days ago and it went beautiful trough the scanner with the acetate sleeve. No skip.

The image printed using the ICC profile created with this new scan seems to have a slight better color fidelity and less noise too, but I will let it dry a few hours before making a more serious evaluation.

One thing that I noticed is that the scanner can't read the full gamma of the printed chart. Wile the chart has almost perfect passages regarding similar color tones, the scanned image shows many similar colors washed in just one. Specially the reds!!!
