Yeah, i started this thread, because that other tread compared Alien Bees strobes to White lighting strobes. This thread is not so concerned about the lights, but about the accesories for them. The alien bees and white lighting (for what it is worth) have the exact same accesories.

They're both Paul C. Buff, aren't they?
Stepless 5-Stop adjustment range? Up to 150 watt modelling light that can be varied according to flash power? All the accessories you need? Simple to use, put together, move about, etc? Won't break the bank?
What more do you need, Alienbees are awesome!

This thread is about Paul C Buff accessories, not Alien Bees vs. White Lightning (which has already been covered in many threads).
I find their heavy-duty light stands excellent. I use their air-cushioned model. I also have the casters, as well as the boom arm attachment, the grids, shovel reflector, spill kill reflector and the circular reflector kit mounting bracket. I have absolutely no problem with any of them.
I've heard mixed-reviews about their softboxes. Most of the negative reviewers say they are difficult to take apart and put together -- but I have two other non-Paul C Buff softboxes and I'd say the same thing about them... definitely not something you want to have to disassemble and reassemble on a regular basis.
Their umbrellas are decent for the price. I personally have some Photek Softlighter II's that I use when I need umbrellas, with or without the diffuser. |

yeah, those umbrellas look dandy... i think i would be tempted to go with those umbrellas over other styles.

I got myself some AlienBees accessories, and i must say i'm very impressed by it all. It works very well for the price, and is a good kit for starting out in studio photography.
kit:
2x SB400
1x SB800
1x 30x60 softbox
1x 60" unbrella (gold/silver)
1x set of 4 grids (10, 20, 30, 40)
+ tripods
I'm very happy with my gear so far. Good price tag, good materials. I recommend it to start with.

ya i heard the softboxes aren't so great. i also had a brolly box but one of the "ribs" broke. right now i use a photoflex softbox, the q39 model. oh and i also heard the boom arm isn't that great. with the boom, you dont want to cut it cheap because bad things happen when lights fall on models

I've always used Chimera lightboxes. They work great, although they can be pricey. I just paid $275 for a medium strip light box by them. I cringed as I read off my credit card #. :D
