Has anyone been told they cannot take any photos in and around Starbucks? Even the store front? |

I don't believe that they're allowed to stop you from photographing the store front, unless they're in some sort of private property (ie: a Barnes & Noble).

Well, I got a couple of lattes(sp) and a excellent piece of very rich chocolate orange cake. No logos showing anywhere, even on the horrid wall. Next thing you know mister chipper comes over. Sorry you are not allowed to take photos in here. So I asked can I outside. Yes, as long as it does not show the store front.......
Grumble

Probably company policy as its a huge chain and their worried about terrorists scouting american interests. Here in indo there are metal detectors, armed security gaurds in MacDonalds and Starbucks and you also have to have your car searched when entering the parking lot.
Ive got to shut up or ASIO will arrest me when i get back to Austalia. |

They are allowed to tell you no photographs if you are on their property. Get off of their property and you can take a photo of the store.

I don't believe it's a matter of terrorism, but of company 'secrets' and design and whatnot.

My wife is a Starbucks manager and it pretty much depends on how each store trains their partners. I take photos in all of the Starbucks in town and get lots of cooperation. My photos make it into their company newsletter, though. LOL
I got ran out of the grocery store for taking photos of produce once. Ummmm, I got ran off at the National Treasury Building in Washington DC as well. I got stopped and questioned by the police when I was taking photos around town in Manassas, VA, but it was when the sniper was shooting people. I think that is all the trouble I've gotten into...

I brought an analog camera into a Macy's (or some store like that) one time--just carrying it, not actually shooting--and a manager-type person stopped me and told me that I was not allowed to take pictures inside. I told him I had not been intending to take any and he just walked off. |

When you guys do these shoots for challenges do you (and/or why not) print the challenge page from DPC take it with you and hand it to the peeps that you are going to shot or the location that they manage. If you do use them/their location let them know that too...advertising works both ways.
More times when not when they see it is a friendly comp they have no issues and will let you pose them about... Usually will cost you a few shots to the peeps but hey it is a lot of fun.

I skipped the coffee shop and went straight for the evil Corporate Headquarters!
When I tried to cross the moat to get inside, they poured scalding espresso down on me from the tower! |

Just gotta get sneaky and hold the camera at waist/chest level and act like you are just fiddling with it.
After all, everyone knows you have to look into a camera to take a picture - right?
