I got my new Rebel in last week, and I also got the 70-300 Sigma APO DG in the day of the game. I had only been using a DSLR for three days, and the first time I had used a zoom telephoto was the night of the game. I shot over 250 pics, and kept 170 of them. In my portfolio there's a folder called "Homecoming05". I put a few that I liked in there. The lighting was less than ideal with the lens I had, so I had to go with some pretty slow shutter speeds and iso 1600 or 800 all night, but I still think I got some decent shots. The high school is a small school that graduates about 40 people each year, and they don't usually have someone taking photos of their games other than moms with digicams in the stands.

Nice attempts.

Keep on shooting, not to offend, but too much blur, not tack sharp, and fence lines are the only critiques I have.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I think if I would have had a decent flash or faster lens I could have got some better shutter speeds.

If anyone else could offer some help on how I can get my shutter speeds down with the equipment that I have, I would greatly appreciate it. I will shoot another football game this weekend.

I'm afraid that high school football is one of the most challenging things for anyone to shoot, and you either have the equipment to pull it off or you don't... the best you can do is crank up your ISO as high as it will go, use the widest aperature you have available, and that's about as much as you can do...
