Edit: Original:
(Curves, layers, inversions, desats and overlays...no spot editing except to get a hair out of the face.) Taken with a Powershot A400.

Nice eye. I would like to see a little more sharpness on the eye and or lashes. Interesting, non-displeasing crop. :) |

It's not a crop. I'll post the original photo. |

Some heavy compression, especially around the hair... or is that over-the-top unsharp mask?

Yeah, I see that too. But in the original it's nearly the same. I think I just caught a fried hair on camera. The layer inversion overlay might've accentuated it a little, but not too sure on how to fix it except for spot editing. |

I'm really curious now. I've just been playing around with this image for 5 minutes - i can't get quite the same effect as what you did. What exactly did you do with inversions, desats and overlays?

Basically made a contrast mask. That's what made the biggest difference, brought out the detail and brightened it up. |

Strange, when i try the steps in that i get quite a different effect:
Although trying the same trick with a "Difference" combination, i get quite an interesting effect:

Ha, the second one is pretty...unique. I used curves too. I don't know, edited it up a while ago so my memory may be a little foggy. |
