To ease the strain on the challenge database why not have a small set of popular challenges that are set at regular intervals.

I first thought of this after the landscape challenge (probably my favourite since joining) - wouldn't it be great to do it 4 times a year so that we get to see how everyones part of the world looks in the different seasons?

There are also popular subjects like flowers that I love to photograph, but it's become almost taboo to do it in a non-flower challenge.

The challenges I would like to see repeated:
Landscape - every 3 months.
Flora & Fauna - every 6 months.
Free Study - once a year.

Bod - Like your ideas about the repetition of challenges. I'd say do the free study challenge like 4 times a year. Maybe 2 times make it black and white, for instance, or duotone. That will still keep every option open as far as no limitations to subjects. I liked the duotone challenge quite a bit. Maybe a general "nature" challenge or 2 would be okay too. With Drew and Langdon already having to think up 104 challenges per year plus speed challenges, this would take a little strain off them if they already had 10 challenges a year or so planned.

I would not mind seeing the members challenges a little more specific than the open challenges. I think we should keep the open challenges with a little broader based topics. with 200+ photos, there is a little more variety. With a "scant" 100 give or take in the members, it's not quite as bad in terms of monotony and repeats.

Just a thought - Bob

I also like this idea,

but, could we also have an un-themed challenge where people just go and take the best picture they can,

yes ,but,

if we had an un-themed challenge, then we would not have any threads where people complain about others not meeting the challenge...

might save some server space!

Well it could still be themed. Call it "Your best shot"

I particularly like this idea for landscapes... The last one was in the middle of winter, here. I'd like a chance to do one during the summer!

"The Season" might make an interesting Challenge topic as well. It would be interesting to see everyone's idea of what represents their particular season. Since the Globe is pretty well represented here, there'd be just about every season captured in the same challenge.
