And I think I am. The moon shots are from exactly the same RAW file, just a little different crop. The one on the left I entered for the conspiracy challenge. I was thinking if I give the true color one, on the right, members would think it is a photoshop job and score it lower. So, to try and please the people I desatted it harshly. Then I scored badly, and deservedly so, in any event.

In your opinion, would the true colored one have scored the same, worse or better? A silly question I know, but important to me.

I want to emphasise again, the orange one is the true color of the polluted moon as shot from Seoul.... almost no postprocessing done at all. Strange color I think.

I think the collored one looks better.
I've seen the moon like this before.
The b/w one looks a bit "dirty"

But it's my understanding that astrology photo's don't do that well here at DPC in general...

But it was an astrology challenge! Great pic though.

What was your white balance set at, or did you adjust the white balance of the RAW file? It should be set to sunny.

I like the original better as well. It has more detail, and the edited seems grainy, perhaps oversharpened. The edited version also seems to have freckles which may have detracted a bit from your score, because everyone knows the moon doesn't have freckles, it's made of cheese. ;-) I think a lot of people would have desat'd this shot as well for the same reason you did.

This is not a fair question to ask.
The original is better IMO, under any term.
But in the challenge, you can not say it is real. Due to the heavy processing seen in the site lately, people automatically assume it was photoshopped, and they vote it down. Hence I do not think anyone can tell you for real how they would vote this picture on the challenge.
But still I think both are good photos, but none is as good as your moody moon

(would have gone with the yellow one)

I like the second one better. I think the cropping on the submitted one makes the noise show up more. In this case, the noise does not enhance the image. I also think the orange glow gives it a better mood. The plain one is just, well, plain.

The color version is miles ahead of the B/W version IMO. I'm also not so sure people would have been overwhelmingly inclined to dismiss it as "photoshopped". I'm sure most of us have many times seen yellow/orange moonrises. It looks perfectly natural to me.

But I absolutely love your "moody moon". Such a simple, yet eerily evocative, image.

Robt.
