On Sunday, my wife caved in and let me buy a new camera, so off to Jessops I scurried (they were the only camera shop anywhere near here with the camera in question in stock). Yesterday, the shutter died ( I panicked and posted 'HELP' requests just about everywhere, even though I knew it was beyond help). Today I went back to the shop and the camera was changed without any quibbles whatsoever. Quite often, Jessops, being the UK's biggest camera store chain, seems to get a bad press, but I have to say that I'm impressed with the way that my problem was dealt with.
That's it, there's nothing more to see here.

I often buy stuff from them as they are good at price matching even from UK based internet sales sites.
When we bought the D70 it was still new enough that it was flying out of their shops faster than they could get stock in - we went in at 10 am and they had received just two that very morning - one sold whilst we were there looking and thinking and we bought the other - and even then they negotiated on price according to internet prices even though they knew they could sell it for full price without problems.
I like being able to take stuff back IN PERSON if it goes wrong so hence my preference to buy from them over faceless internet suppliers.

They replaced my FZ10 when it had mechanical problems with the zoom, and Panasonic were dragging their heels with it while waiting for parts. It did take a bit of grumpiness and a call to head office though, but I'm not sure how many other shops would have done this, so I was happy with them.
The really helpful manager at my local branch left though, now to be replaced by one less helpful, and the quality of staff tends to be poor. They also announced on my last visit that they would no longer price match, so I don't bother with them any more. |

Ditto for one of the branches we used to use, up in Watford. When he was there not only did he give good advice but he recruited a team of people who were actually into photography and knew their aperture controls from their arses!
I don't rely on them for advice or info... just for the goods, the price matching and the after sales service if something is faulty...
