Help! I was editing 2 pics last night, my Photoshop program froze up and now neither picture can be found anywhere on my computer! I didn't delete them, anyone know where I can look to find missing pics? LOL
I'm so bummed.

nowhere the original?
What was it jpg or ? Try search all jpg's with windows, and then select on last modified or openened. If it's still not their the name of the file has been changed. (weird if that can be happen if u don't "save" it tho)
goodluck, keep us updated |

I ran a search of all files recently updated and found the image number of one of them, but got this message:
"The item 'IMG_4763.jpg' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly.
Do you want to delete this shortcut?"
Hell no, I wanna open my picture. Waaaaah!
Anyone know what the heck happened? I never hit save, so the pics must be floating in limbo on my hard drive, but how do I find them if the file name doesn't work?
This so sucks!

Are you sure you actually copied the photo from your camera to your hard disk, and that you didn't just create a shortcut on your hard disk which was pointing to the camera drive?
i.e. Is the photo still sitting on the camera drive?
Failing that, I'd use Windows search to search for all *.psd and *.jpg on your drive, and then sort descending by date. The latest pics will appear at the top of the list. |

u have an external Hard-drive attached and de-plugged in the meanwhile?
Or try this : C:/Windows/Temp maybe the file is placed there?
*the images, are not on your camera anymore ?
Best thing to do is when u go edit things make a back-up first :)

No, I had saved the images to my hard drive and cleared my camera. They were there until during editing Photoshop froze and when it came back the photos were gone completely.

If you haven't used that card since try to recover them from your memory card. Here is a free program:
//www.snapfiles.com/get/smartrecovery.html
IF that doesn't work do a search. If you are usuing a PC then go to find and type in *.jpg if you shot in Jpeg.
The * works as a wildcard kinda and will find all .jpg files on your computer.

I've used the card since....and I did search under .jpg and every variation. One pic was taken 9/10 and the other on 9/17. I'm so frustrated.

Try the recovery program I linked anyway. It work for me even after I used the card a few times. It will only take about 15 min. for a 1GB card and you can see the images asd it recovers them. And hey it is free.

Make sure when you do a search you put the *(asterick) in front of .jpg or it will not work.

I'm downloading it now. I'll give it a try later this morning. Makes me wonder if another editing program may be needed now. Isn't Photoshop Elements 2.0 a good one? It keeps freezing up on me but this was the first casualty.

Yeah, it brought up like 4000+ images, none of these precious two I lost. Sigh.

Probably more hardware than any other thing.....How much RAM do you have on your machine?

I have 1GB of RAM and am hardly touching any of it yet.

That seems strange for Photoshop to act up with all that. What are all the specs on your system and can you reinstall Photoshop?

I have a top notch, brand new system, it's not the computer. Photoshop is the only program giving me grief.

1. Are you sure the photos were jpegs? Could they be RAW files? (By this, I mean the original files.)
2. Are you giving Photoshop a large enough space for scratch disks? (Low disk space will freeze PS up in a heartbeat.)
3. Did you search for all jpegs by date? (I am assuming that you did, just double-checking.)

They were .jpg...still no sign of them after about 50 different searches. Makes me scared to edit any more pics. How do I know if PS has enough room? I'm only using about 1/16 of my hard drive so far. (System is pretty new.)
