muckpond's thread reminded me of when I did some painting and improvements on the exterior of our house back in 2001. I took pics before, then came up with various color schemes in photoshop until I found-- I mean until my wife picked the colors she liked. I also tried some stone and shingles, but we ran out of time and money to get it all done. Just thought I would post here and say that this was an awesome way to save time, money and heartache! I love technology. ;-)

Before:

Conceptual (Photoshopped):

Finished:

Last note - I used "Student Painters" to do the house - what a nightmare that was! My wife and I ended up doing most of the work!

bump for the "others may not be interested in this, but I am" crowd...

Just looking for some comments in the thread like "That sucks" or "I woulda done it differently" or "Your house was friggin ugly before, and it's friggin uglier now" or "Man, I thought you lived in a castle on top of a mountain!"

Yours and muckpond's houses are so alike! Is this typical of buildings in some area of the states? They look great and roomy and I like the way you ended up painting it, but prefer your conceptual ideas. Loke you we are limited by cash but have great ideas on how we would like our place to look.

A challenge idea could be something like "take a view of your house that reflects its character or style"

Or we could all just go into house design!

Ken,
That must be the coolest house in all of Iceland!

Seriously though; I think you (your wife) picked nice, subtle colors. That's an interesting house. Never seen window configurations quite like it before. I'm a fan of simple rectangular homes. They are very economically shaped, and spacious inside.

I take it your next project is the masonry along the base? Definitely don't let students do that!;)

Edit: PS, Here is my place. We've been thinking about replacing the decals some day;) What do you think?

Thanks - she's great with colors. The house is the oldest on the street (near the bottom of a dead end) and it's a bit convoluted, but I like it. If you look in this pic, you'll see the little square window in the top of the outbuilding behind the house - that's my office over our huge shop/garage. I am sitting on the other side of that window right now. *waving* :)

I love that! And unlike most mobile homes, you can hitch that baby up real quick and outrun the tornadoes! :)

We can't outrun tornadoes; although these things have a good track record of withstanding them. We live in this so we can outrun hurricanes and not lose our stuff. What's happened here, and in the gulf, reinforces our decision to live this way. It's also like being on vacation all the time.

PS I'm waving back from behind that big window.
