Can you take her to an emergency vet?
09/27/2005 12:12:06 AM · #3
There is no emergency vet where I live. I live in a very rural part of Tennessee. Our Vet is from another county also. I am going to take her as soon as he opens in the morning. She won't get up at all. But she did eat some food out of my hand and drank some water.

Lots of times local vets for livestock will also tend to emergency domestic calls.. its worth a shot. If you are in a rural area there should be a vet or two that deal with larger animals locally.

worth a shot if she wont get up...

Does anything seem like it is broken? Are there any large animal vets in your area. They might be able to come out and look at her.

You should hold off giving her any more food or water just in case there turns out to be something wrong. Good luck -- hope everything turns out OK!

Sorry to hear about little Gracie Mandy.

If you can't get to a vet immediately keep her warm, quiet and no food or water as she'll be in shock still. Good luck and let us know how she gets on will you.

Nope. No large animal vet either till morning. I got her to stand up with some help, but I think that her hip is broken, she looks crooked, but she doesn't act like it hurts when I touch she just can't stand up on her own.

If her hip were broken you'd know it by her reaction when you touched her there. More likely it's all stiff from impact I think. I'd be more concerned about internal injury. Lay off the food & water until the vet sees her. And good luck to you and Gracie. The TreeDog got hit by a car once and it was scary. He couldn't/wouldn't get up. But no damage was done, amazingly; just bruised and stiff. He went to the vet within the hour, since it happened in the daytime, so that was good.

Hey Mandy..

I would follow Sue's advice then. Keep her warm with a blanket in a quiet place with no food or water. There could also be internal injuries... Moving her too much could cause paralysis depending on the injuries...

Good luck tonight and let us know how she makes out.. you are both in my thoughts

Just got back from the vet. Gracie is going to be OK! She broke her pelvis and it will heal on its own. She won't be able to walk for about a month and is on pain medication. She will have to be spayed because getting pregnant could kill her now. When she heals, her pelvis will be half the normal size. Can dog food from now on too. I'm sure she loves that part. She is resting now, but she is HOME. I have her on the bed with me as I work on some pictures and vote on DPC. She is on a pee pad on the bed with her favorite blanket. I have the tv turned on the Animal Planet. That is her favorite channel.

Pleased to hear it.

Glad your pup is gonna be okay Mandy. My pets love the animal planet too - problem is they think it is interactive and go flying into the tv if i let them watch haha.

Around here(where ky meets tn) rural doesnt mean fields of farms it means more mountains and swinding roads than people to travel them.
Keep Gracie snug.

Glad to hear Gracie will be ok... Its tough knowing that one of our four-legged family members is hurt and can't express to us what they need or where it hurts... Keep us posted...

Great to hear she'll be fine.

Storm is too cool to watch TV all day. He hangs out on his lounger in the pool all day.

thank goodness, mandy, that it's nothing worse. i know exactly what you went/are going through. my dog took a nasty whack a few years ago, but thankfully has nothing but roadrash scars left from it. i carried him up and down two flights of stairs for about a week. although he completely recovered, and can still clear the fence, he won't jump it unless he's called to.

Thank goodness she's going to be ok!! Keep us posted how she's getting on and ......give her a hug from all her dpc two and four footed friends :-))
