Hello all,
For those of you who don’t know, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, is the title name for a number of walks throughout the United States devoted to raising money and awareness about breast cancer.
This year, I have decided to organize a team to go down to New York City to walk through Central Park with thousands of others.
I have never done anything like this before, and although I have an idea as to what I am doing, I was hoping there might be someone on this site with some experience with the walk.
Thank You,
Max Jordan

The walk is a great experience! I have done one at Purchase College in Westchester and it is a fun and very rewarding way of donating to a good cause. It is very organized and there is usually free doughnuts! But there is also a lot of very good information about donating and about breast cancer in general.
I do not know exactly what you want to know, but I did attend last year and I am signed up to go this year (only a few weeks away!).

I was wondering how the paper donation process works, and at what point I give that to the American Cencer Society.
I also wanted to make sure that by having my team register online is enough that the Cancer Society knows they are coming.
(I am the Team Leader, so the responsibilites fall on me, and I would rather not be caught off guard...)
Thanks for the input Lee |

I am not exactly sure how the paper donation process works, as I went as a team. But I believe (I could definitely be wrong) that you get pledges from family members, co-workers, etc. and then that adds to whatever donation that you make. I also do believe that the online registration online is sufficient... when you arrive at the event there should be registration tents where you can either check off your list/team, or, if necessary, you can registrate right there.

alright, that sounds good. I was prety sure the online registration would work fine too, but then some people asked me about it today...and it got me worried.
anyone else have any experience with this?
Thanks,
Max

I have participated in 2 3-Day Breast Cancer walks totaling 120 miles, 60 each walk. While it was 6 of the hardest days you can imagine, it nowhere meets how bad the bad days are for someone dealing with breast cancer. I encourage anyone with the ability to participate to do so, you can do walks, runs, support those who do, or just donate to your local chapter. I try to support those who participate in these events, so please keep this thread updated with any information in regards to how we can help. I will running in the Susan G. Komen 5K in Dallas on October 15th. If any of you Dallasites want to see a middle aged, overweight, crab try and go 5K, come on out and cheer me on.
Good luck with your walk,
-danny |

are there other ways to raise money through these walks other than just asking for donations?
When I signed my team up, I was given a bunch of pins which i plan on selling for at least $20 each.
Do you have any other fundraising tips? Just knock on people doors? |
