Although I don't use a lot of props in my studio, I am trying to select a few that would work without being cheesy. What props do you use? Where did you get them? Anyone have any secrets on where to find them?
Thanks!
Eric
p.s. Feel free to share any shots you've done!

Speaking strictly about a DPC-oriented studio, I would say this list covers most of it (in no particular order):
- Several colorful head wrap / hoods / scarves for the women-with-pretty-eyes shots
- A giant ferris wheel
- Praying Mantis'
- Birds of prey
- Some water drops
- A fog machine
- Woody (You just gotta get a woody)
- Rubber ducks
- A suspension bridge
and most importantly:
- Nude women
- Joey
- Iceland
(but keep the nude women and Joey in separate cabinets)
That's all I can think of. ...oh wait - these are useful as well:
- A stuffed squirrel
- a rake

I have found invaluable:
A bar stool(s)
A small foot stool
A small angled foot stool
A Black and Decker collasible workbench (very heavy though)
The bar stools work great, they are a real good height. I use the ones with the bars for the feet.
The foot stools:
a small two step foot stool, for use with the bar stool for shorter legs or elevate one leg. Tall enough for kids to sit on wihtout having their knees in their chin.
The angled stool (Also know as a nursing stool) is angled instead of flat and seems to rest the foot more comfotably and natuarlly.
The stools also give low and varying height to still life setups on the floor, just throw a drop over them.
The work bench folds away when not in use, is rock solid and will not tip over if bumped into, and the whole thing is a big vise.

What?? No mini-clawfoot tubs? You've got to be kidding!
Anyone have examples of kids portraits out there using props?
Thanks |

And aquarium...
Oh, and keep the birds of prey away from the praying mantis'.
You don't want the praying mantis' getting preyed on. |

This is a great resource for props. It's in Richland Hills, Texas. I lived close enough that I went there. They do most of their sells online but do have some of the props to view. I am almost positive I saw a small claw foot tub there.great props
I found the tub. It's a very small one.small tub

Ben,
Thank you so much! That's the exact tub I wanted. I couldn't find it anywhere. It's $200, so now I have to think about it for a while!

You are welcome. I think they have an email list you can sign up for and they have sales every now and then. |
