Hi,
I am kind of a newbie to photography and have taken a few pictures at
this stage but I am looking to get some photographs critique to find out
where I need to improve and what I need to do to improve.
These are 2 photos I took yesterday using a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens on a Canon 350D
Shutter Speed: 1/800s
Aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 200
Shutter Speed: 1/320s
Aperture: f/1.8
ISO: 100
I would very much appreciate any criqitues or suggestions.

Hi Darragh,
These seem a little soft,or off focus. Could be the focussing itself or you may be a little too close with that lense, I've heard it is a little soft wide open yet I have never come across it myself, great lense.Unless the light demands it I would try closing it down a little 2.8 maybe to try and keep the blurred background. These type of shots are usually better with a telephoto or macro, they both give you a better background.

I didn't do any sharpen or unsharp mask for the web, I have uploaded new versions of images which have had a unsharpen mask applied to them.
This may resolve some of the soft focus issue.
Should I be keeping the f number around 2.8 or below 2.8 for macro shots like this where the central focus is the flower?
I know the f number affects the depth of field, I should be keeping around 2.0 for flowers and other macro shots like bees and insects?
