i know there are alot of brilliant web peeps out there, so maybe someone has the answer to my question.
I'm wondering if there's a way to automatically set someone's printer to landscape with javascript or other scripting method. say i have a websit that's all in landscape. people might want to print it out. so i want them to be able to click and it automatically launches the print dialog with the layout set to 'landscape'.
is this possible?
REALLY appreciate anyone who can help.

Javascript does not have the capabilities to do anything outside of the browser environment by design. When it calls the print() function, it is really telling the browser to hit it's own internal print function, which then calls the Windows print dialogue box to the screen. There is no way through straight Javascript to pass information to the end user outside of the browser interface capabilities.

There might be a half-solution... if your webpage is directed at certain users, you can ask them to go to 'File' -> 'Page Setup' (in Internet Explorer) and set the orientation to Landscape. I think this has a permanent effect. |
