Here is my first quick attempt at macro with my Nikkor 80-200f/2.8 with a Canon 500D (hey, it's not my fault if Nikon doesn't make a 77mm close-up filter). I also use a Tamron 1.4X tele-converter for this one.
What's your opinion?
I think it's not bad for a poor man macro lens. I am pretty impressed with this Canon filter. I will certainly have quite a lot of fun in the futur with this setup.
The depth of field is so small at such magnification, it's harder than I thought to get a sharp photo.

HOYA does though
Among others. :0)
Need to ratchet that f/ up (or down depending how you look at it) so you can get those hands into focus.
Google for DOF calculator and you'll get some good help with the exact f/ you need at whatever focal range.

Yeah, I got some of those in the 52mm size, but they are not double element type like the Canon 500D. Double element close-up filter are supposed to be better at chromatic aberration.

I am not sure if it's the teleconverter that soften things up or lack of DOF. DOF seems to be just a few millimeter; hard to dial it correctly. |

Bump. Anyone else care to comment or have been using the Canon 500D and would share some advice?
Thanks |

It's 2/3 original picture. Original is 3000x2000, I crop a 2000x2000 square out of the original; so that's exactly 2/3. Here is the complete original photo resized to fit 640 pixels.
