I've had a 1GB CF card for a little over a year now and now when I view or download my pics it takes foreeeever! Any explanations? My 512MB card works fine. I've reformatted the card also. Thanks.

What kind of card? How are you formatting? In camera, using XP,etc? What kind of reader or are you plugging in the camera?

It's a PNY card, and it doesn't have a speed rating on it. I format it through the camera. I'm using a PNY card reader. I also have a SanDisk reader. Same problem. Let me add that a month ago it worked just fine.

Try it with other card readers. I found that my Transcend 1GB 30x (speed unmarked if I remember correctly) worked great with some card readers but with the card reader I picked up, it was unBEARABLY SLOW!

I took it to the shop and we tried some different card readers on it. It turns out it was a problem specific to My card reader with the Windows XP OS (my card reader worked fine in win2000). It was truly bizarre and defied reason.

They said it was a conflict with the controller chip in the card. A 45x card was given me instead and I walked away happy.

Check it out and experiment.

For what it's worth, 80x cards are currently the norm for CF. 150x cards have already been released, but there have been some production difficulties with these in larger formats (probably due to cheaper chips being used than the SD due to larger physical space in the cards and the chips need to be linked) which has the production error rate around 1/3rd. The rep told me that they should start showing up within the next couple of months.

Sometimes you can luck out and get a warranty to a current product.... Check your warranty conditions.
