Hidee ho,
I have tried converting my RAW images to JPG's using both Raw Essentials and PhotoShop.
The trouble I am having is that once I convert the images they look very 'bitty', almost like they have JPG artifacts all over.
Can someone tell me what settings they use when converting please, I am guessing it has something to do with the pixels per inch setting.
I'd really appreciate some help here,

You need Photoshop CS2 (ideally) ... is that what you are using???

OK - well, I use RAW converter in PS CS2 ... This allows for very advanced editting and show multi-channel levels live as you adjust the in-camera settings. ... Other Software that simply converts RAW to JPG is meaningless. I had tried CS1 photoshop and had no luck with RAW!
There are a few shareware converters that allow for editting the file before saving ... Then you need to Save as a TIF (a non-lossy compression) ... JPGs are lossy!!! If you are just converting to JPG, you aren't taking advantage of RAW!

That is not necessarily true. All the adjustments you are able to perform on the RAW are evident no matter what you save it as.
Also, if you only save one time, directly from RAW to JPG, on a high quality setting, you will see little or no quality loss. It's when you save a JPG over and over that it loses it quality.

This ppi or dpi setting has nothing to do with how it looks on your screen. A computer monitor doesn't know what 'inches' are. All it knows are pixels.
My guess would be checking either the output size (resolution) or output quality settings.
I personally use Capture One (C1) and Raw Shooter Elements (RSE). I really prefer C1 but it is exspensive for the Full Pro version I use. |

Thanks for the help so far, I am using CS2.
Shat resolution settings should I be saving as then? If I get a JPG straight from my camera the image looks really smooth, but if I convert a RAW it seems less smooth.
I am sure its down to the conversion ssettings I am using rather than all the sharpening and colour tweaks I am making before conversion.
Appreciate you help folks,
