Is there a DSLR lens for canon that does Panoramas?

I think you can get special tripod mounts that help. Not sure about specific lenses, but I'm sure some are more suitable than others

Go film!

Just a suggestion. Don't throw rocks at me.

I don't know about their DSLRs, but my Canon S1 IS came with a Panoramic mode and stitching software for use in conjunction with a pan-head tripod.

As you shoot the successive images, it holds a preview of the previous shot in the viewfinder, making it much easier to judge the overlap -- if you're stuck shooting handheld, it can help line up the images vertically as well. This mode also holds the exposure settings the same through all the shots.

Otherwise, it seems to me that a "panoramic" shot is really just a wide-angle with the top and/or bottom cropped.

I thought the lens really doesn't have anything to do with it (expect in the swing style that shoots as it moves), like the advantage, the film is just cropped down to be panoramic size. Just curious of what your looking for in a lens? What does it do different for panos?

Its best not to go to the wide or tele extreme of the lens range but basicly it does not matter. You need to shoot several shots and have them stiched together. A panoramic tripod head will help keep the camera moving along a strainht line so your photos stich together seamlessly but it can be done heandheld, make sure you shoot manually with the same settings or you will have exposure differnces between segments stiched. To Stich them use software like Canon Photostich, or PS... but PS doesnt do it too well in my opinion. make yure you enter information on your focal length so the soft ware can correct any distortion made by it~ or... take one pic and crop it ahahaha
