A friend has asked me to take some candid photographs of her wedding this weekend and I'd love some recommendations of websites containing inspirational non-formal wedding photography that I can browse through tonight.

I've left it a bit late as I'm probably only online another couple of hours and we're off to the wedding tomorrow but would appreciate any links/ suggestions anyone may have.

THANKS

agwright and I have recently shot a wedding for one of our friends, they were looking for candid shots too.

One of the best ones ( I think...) was that we got everyone with kilts on to stand in a line. The bride jumped up onto their arms and she lay across them. All of the uys had great big smiles and the bride will always remember the fun she had doing that.

I got a link on DPC ages ago with a list of shots to take at a wedding, this may be of some use too : clicky

Maybe some shots to get :

bride and groom kissing, holding hands, peoples faces (especially close family to the happy couple), any kids there enjoying themselves, the cake, low down shot of the main table.

I used a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens and a Canon-550ex flash to get some good DOF shots during the dancing, if you have them definately take them along.

She's not keen on ANY shots which require people to be asked to do stuff, even fun stuff, so unless I can sneak a couple in, I'll probably not be able to do anything like that one with everyone in a line and the bride on their arms... sounds fun though.

Thanks for the ideas on shots.

I am already keen to capture details as well as people - close up on dress details, cake, table layouts, shoes, ring, hand holding, etc.

Any more links and ideas very welcome!

When I played photographer at my sister in laws wedding many years ago I got my best shots by paying attention to those in the wedding party who were standing around waiting as the real photographer was getting his photos.

There is NO real photographer - this really is a very informal wedding and they absolutely don't want any formal stuff at all...

Hippies

Who are hippies? My friends? No, not at all... just not into pomp and tradition. Fair play to them - they are getting what they want rather than just going along with what everyone does just because it's what everyone does!

I've had a good look at some of the sites linked and have some great ideas for a few shots I would not have thought of.

We're off now - will let you know how it goes.
