How much does wall color affect the overall color of your photo? I ask because I'm trying to scratch resources together to create a home studio, and none of my existing walls are anything approaching white. (My husband often jokes that we live in an easter basket!)
One of the rooms I'm considering has soft green paint (almost celadon, but a hair greener) and the other has light orchid-purple walls. (Before anyone cracks a joke, we live in a rental house.) I think the landlord will let us repaint, but before I do that, I'd like to know if there's some sort of a test I could do to determine if that would be necessary. I don't have a light meter or anything, so whatever I do to test this has to be BASIC.
Has anyone had problems with color cast resulting from this sort of situation? Is there a solution other than repainting?

Paint will affect the color of light in a room. It will affect it not only when you shoot it, but when you are viewing/evaluating it, either on-screen or in a print; the color of lighting you have installed will affect it even more.

I think most places working with color recommend a light neutral gray for the walls, and use daylight-balanced lighting (5000k temperature to mimic sunlight) for viewing.
