I'm looking for a good P&S Shoot for my fiance...any suggestions?

Budget around $300 ($400 tops). Requirements...

1) Fair compact (but doesn't have to be uber-compact. Able to fit in a purse is a good size).

2) Fast (fast focus time & short interval before shots). My fiance doesn't like having to wait seconds between shots.

New panasonic FX9 is pure loving, or maybe look for its little brother, the FX8.

I am enjoying my new Nikon 7900 ($300 on EBay with shipping included). You can see my images at:

IMHO it is a great little camera but falls down a little as light decreases - so easy to get blurs at dusk and overcast moments - good idea to use a friendly wall, handrail, etc. to prop the camera. Check images after you take them and you can see right away if you 'got it' or the image is mediocre when it comes to sharpness and saturation. Generally I find the colors are great.

Please check out the Contax U4R and the Contax TVS Digital, the Zeiss lens system is amazingly clear. The TVS is a bit larger, the size of the average disposable camera, the U4R is credit card size, both with zoom

Contax TVS Digital

I dont even mind sending it over to you, Im not sure they were released internationally.

I personally own the Contax U4R and can totally reccomend it, I used to have a Contax TVS before i got my first DSLR and I do regret selling it but I had no choice because im a poor man. She will love either. There is no REAL manual settings on the U4R but you can manually set white balence and other things whereas the TVS has a manual mode and even manual focus. I see both cameras regularly on Yahoo auction Japan for around $300, a bargain. just PM mme and I will be glad to help you get one.

Take a look at the Fuji Finepix F10. It's a very small, inexpensive camera with very big features: 6.3 megapixels, 3x zoom, 1.3 second startup time, .01 second shutter lag, extremely low noise (actually usable to ISO 800), VGA movie mode, and a 2.5" LCD. It's like a mini fixed-lens DSLR, and you can get it for $266!

well how big is your fiance's purse? :p
anyway, I love P&S cameras. Here are my 2 favourites.

1. Canon IXUS 50

2. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8

I would personally go for the Canon IXUS 50 for its extra manual controls (as compared to Lumix DMC-FX8) but the Lumix is a strong performer, probably one of the best in the P&S category.

Fuji F10. Incredible new sensor -very good optics. The best no-manual-adjustments P&S out there by a very large margin.

About the only non-DSLR that allows real available-light shooting in low-light situations.

Has some drawbacks, tho - you will need to check it out. :)

Panasonic FX8/9

Large screen
Great optical quality
Very fast
Stabalizer
Small

Also, the screen isn't just large, it's also very clear and colorful. Unlike most screens.

I'm really happy with my Canon PowerShot A400... it doesn't quite measure up with the great SLRs but that's what I've used throughout the three months I've been on DPC and I've learned a ton on it. All the pictures in my portfolio are taken with the A400, check em out if you'd like.

I tell you, someone needs to release a P&S "Joey Lawrence" addition. I swear, it was pretty amazing what he did with a 1-megapixel P&S.

*lol*
