While doing a little DPC critiques earlier, a bird slammed into the window next to me and just about had me jump out of my skin. I went out to see if he/she was okay and found the bird only stunned, with a small smear of blood above the beak. I took a couple shots and went in to try and identify him/her in my Michigan Birds Book. Nearest I could find was a Cedar Waxwing, but that has red tips on the wing tips, execpt for the juveniles who lack the red tips, but also lack the mask across the face. So, not sure if this is the saem bird. Maybe a juvenile who has gotten the mask, but not yet the red tips? Anyhow, any here that might be able to help in confirming this identity? Ignore the red above the beak - it is just from the small amount of blood coming from the nostrils on the beak.

oh...and the bird finally did gets it's wits back and flew off seemingly okay. |

It's a juvenile I think. Doesn't even have the crest yet.

Yes, that looks more like a Colgate smile than Crest. |

Birds don't have teeth, so they don't need toothpaste, wiseguy

I just hope his/her bloody nose...er, beak....does not hurt too much
I felt real bad for the little bird. We have forest along one side and the back of our house so the birds see the reflection and think they're flying into the woods. We've had at least a dozen crashes this summer alone. Some survive, some don't. I hate to plaster my window with window clings to let them know it's a window as I often have to shoot through the window to get shots of certain birds as they ar so skittish |
