Anyone tell me how to get the camera to sync with Alien bees wireless? I always use them in-studio and just keep a cord on, but I need to shoot a job wireless and can't get the camera/lights to sync up.

Any help would be appreciated

If you are trying to sync the flashes with the internal flash, your pre flashes is probably firing the bees and thus not getting any light to the exposure. I'm not familar with your camera, but you can turn off preflashes with most vcameras by setting the flash to manual. I would suggest the lowest power mode of the flash or taping an infrared filter over the flash so the internal flash will not effect the main exposure.

A radio or infrared transmitter\receiver setup would be ideal, if a bit costly. The RadioRemote One Package from AlienBees is $515 and will control 4 AB monolights. There are lots of other brands out there, but the ABs also allow you to adjust the lights remotely.

If you don't want to go that route, you can fire the ABs with a camera mounted flash. The slave cells in the ABs will fire the lights when they sense the flash from the camera.

Thanks guys,
Mick, I actually was trying to fire with a mounted 580ex, but it wouldn't work, so i set the flash to manual, and set the power at 1/128 and this worked. Unfortunately, I can't turn the pre-flash off on the pop-up flash. The strange thing is, the camera won't sync if the flash is pointing in any direction except forward. Totally strange.
