Where can I find a lense hood for EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens? I want it to be one of those cool-looking ones with the "petal" shape...not just a solid looking cone, which is super boring.
Thanks!

The Canon hood for this lens is not a petal-type hood; I don't know of anyone who makes a petal-type hood to fit it.

I bought the recommended canon lens hood for this lens, but its not petal shaped because the focus barrel rotates, defeating the purpose of the lens hood. Because its quite a wide angle lens, the lens hood is only small to prevent vignetting showing in your images.

One wonders if anyone has ever made a hood for a zoom lens that zooms along with the lens? In other words, the hood would telescope in and out as the lens zoomed in and out? Be way cool...

Bear - you can get the rubber lens hoods which don't automatically go in and out but you can fold them in and out. I got one for my 100-400mm L lens and I like it way better than the lens hood that came with it. They adjust to 3 different positions. They screw on the threads of the lens or filter and then the lens cap fits on inside. They come in all different mm circumferences. I got a smaller one for my 75-300 and like it much better than the hood that goes with that lens.

The petal one's are only for wide angle lenses and ones that the barrel doesn't rotate (i think)... the narrow portion of the petal prevents any vignetting to occur. You can go the cheezy route and add a petal screw in lens hood (one that screws into the 58mm thread you have).

The hood on the 24-70 F/2.8L stays in one place as the lens zooms, which is sorta what you want? As you go wider the front element moves out, and so isn't as far 'inside' the hood, as the hood is mounted to the 'body' of the lens, and not the sliding 'barrel' which holds the front element & Filter. But then it dosn't need that feature to look cool, it's a mother of a lens anyway! :-).

The cool thing about this is that the hood isn't a dinner plate like some of the other wide angle hoods around (Like the plate that comes with the 17-40 and 16-35).

Cheers, Me.
