While walking around London, on my last day in the U.K., I came across these two interesting shaped buildings. I am wondering if any one can tell me what these buildings are. The cigar shaped building definetly stands out but when you see what is in the foreground, I cant make up my mind if that is the right setting for it.

Both photographs were taken in the London Bridge area.

The Queen's great phallus.

Not a londoner, but the phallus shaped building is affectionately known as the gherkin.

Check it out..

P.S. I think that old building in the front has now been bulldozed to make way for some more vegetable-themed buildings.

Er...

That old building in the front looks rather like the tower of london to me....

Bulldozed. Hmmm... - Unlikely?

Swiss Re (AKA "the gerkin"), on St Mary Ax, and City Hall (Mayor Of London's office too) respectively.

Thanks for your help everyone. I was told about "the gerkin" on the day but no one I asked could tell me what it really was. I think they were all tourists like me :)
