Ok. I came back from school and edited some shots i took today. Everything seemed ok, until i came to the shots taken with the 50mm. Everything below f/3.5 is soft. I used to get tack sharp shots wide open. Not anymore.
everything seems ok. The focusing barrel seems to be a few degrees crooked, but that shouldn't affect pictures as drastically as this. Same problem if i hold the barrel straight and manual focus. Everything is somewhat sharp, but it's as if there's a seriously overdone soft focus effect

I'm sending it to Canon tomorrow. I'll probably write "everything has worked perfectly before, and i've had no problems with large apertures, but suddenly without any apparent reason, this problem started occurring. I always treat my equipment with care, and it has been in a cushioned camera bag on my shoulder all the time." |

Yes that looks to soft to me too.
Bummer, I would miss that funny little lens if it would break.
If it's still under waranty, they can repair it offcourse.
Otherwise, well it's the best lens you could brake, it's the cheapest one...

Just to make sure, these are all going by the 1/focal length rule for shutter speed? And are you using MF or AF?
edit: Actually, I guess the 1/f rule suggestion doesn't make any sense, since you're getting sharper photos at smaller apertures.
